- Function
- An independent, advisory committee with the mandate to:
- Help strengthen governance, risk management, and internal control practices of the Ontario government.
- Provide advice, recommendations and reports to the President of the Treasury Board.
- Support the Audit and Accountability Committee in delivering its mandate and reports back on the status/key findings of top priority and special audits.
- Provide recommendations to the President of the Treasury Board in his role as the Chair of the Audit and Accountability Committee, and in coordination with the Secretary of the Cabinet recommends audits to be included in the annual Audit Plan.
- As part of this Committee, 9 Sector Audit Committees (SACs) are established as subcommittees with a mandate to:
- Provide advice and recommendations through the Ontario Internal Audit Committee (OIAC) Chair to the President of the Treasury Board, including in consultation with the Secretary of the Cabinet, applicable ministries and the Ontario Internal Audit Division, on sector audits to be included in the annual Audit Plan.
- Support, in collaboration with Deputy Ministers and senior ministry management, information sharing across SACs to provide OIAC with sector specific and government-wide perspectives of internal and external risks.

- Central Services
- Resources
- Agencies and Transfer Payments
- These SACs are not separate agencies, they are subcommittees of the OIAC and are displayed separately for clarity.

- Membership
OIAC: The Lieutenant Governor in Council may appoint up to five members, two of which are Deputy Ministers, nominated by the Secretary of the Cabinet.
SACs: The Lieutenant Governor in Council may appoint up to three external members for each SAC. Internal members will be appointed by the Minister, nominated by the Secretary of the Cabinet.
- Term
Members shall be appointed for a term of up to 3 years.
- Meetings
- • OIAC: The OIAC shall meet, virtually or in person, at least quarterly. Special purpose meetings may also be convened by the OIAC Chair, in consultation with the CIA/designate and OIAC Secretary, as necessary. • SAC: SACs shall meet, virtually or in person, at least quarterly. Special purpose meetings may also be convened by the OIAC/SAC Chair, in consultation with the CIA/designate and OIAC/SAC Secretary, as necessary.
- Remuneration
OIAC: External members appointed to the Ontario Internal Audit Committee are remunerated at $750 per diem except for the Chair, who is remunerated at a rate set by the Lieutenant Governor in Council.
SACs: External members appointed to each SAC are remunerated at $600 per diem for the Chair and $400 per diem for members.
Internal members appointed to the OIAC, including the SACs, are not remunerated.
