Function

The Postsecondary Education Quality Assessment Board (PEQAB) is an advisory agency of the Government of Ontario. It makes recommendations to the Minister on applications for ministerial consent for institutions not empowered to offer all or part of a degree program or designate themselves as a "university". The PEQAB Board was established to ensure that new degree programs offered by Ontario colleges, out-of-province institutions and private institutions provide the high quality of education that is expected from degree granting institutions in Ontario. The Board is responsible for: reviewing ministerial consent applications; determining criteria and procedures for its assessments; establishing review panels and advisory committees to assess the quality of proposed programs and organizations seeking consent; and undertaking any related research prior to making a recommendation to the Minister.

Membership

The Board is comprised of a chair appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council, and a vice-chair (drawn from the Board) and not more than nine other members appointed by the Minister.

Term

Members are appointed for a maximum of three years and are eligible for reappointment.

Meetings

The Board normally meets every two months for 2-4 hours and at least six times a year.

Remuneration

Appointees are remunerated according to Schedule A, Level 2 of the Agencies and Appointments Directive.
