The board is composed of twenty-six members. The chancellor, the president and the mayor of North Bay are ex officio members. The mayor of the City of North Bay may designate a member of the city council to sit in his or her place. Six members are appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council and two members are elected by the senate of the university from among its faculty members. Two members are elected by and from the faculty. Two members are elected by and from among the students. Two members are elected by and from among the full-time non-teaching employees of the University and one member who is neither faculty, administrative staff nor a student is appointed by the alumni association.
