Function

Boards of health are responsible for providing public health programs and services to the area communities in the health unit. The programs include healthy growth and development including family health; healthy lifestyles; chronic diseases and injury prevention; infectious diseases prevention and protection; health hazard investigation; environment programs and public health program planning and evaluation. The health unit delivers legislated public health programs and services under the leadership of the Medical Officer of Health and governance of the Board of Health.

Membership

The board is composed of seven municipal members and one or more members appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council. The number of Lieutenant Governor in Council appointees shall be less than the number of municipal members.

Term

Members serve for terms of one, two or three years. When a member is unable to complete a term of office, a new member is appointed to serve for the remainder of the unexpired term.

Meetings

The health unit is designated as the Counties of Bruce and Grey. There are twelve meetings a year held on the third Friday of the month at the unit's offices. Some preparation time is required.

Remuneration

Appointees to the Health Unit Board are paid by the Health Unit.
