Function

The Ontario Provincial Conservation Agency will oversee the transition to a regional watershed-based framework for conservation authorities in Ontario. It will provide province-wide coordination, shared digital and technical resources, and consistent practices to strengthen the work of regional conservation authorities.

Membership

The Lieutenant Governor in Council (LGIC) appoints at least five and not more than 12 members, who shall form the board of directors, under ss. 35.6(1) of the Conservation Authorities Act. A person is not eligible to be appointed if the person is a member of Parliament or a member of the Assembly or satisfies such criteria as may be prescribed by regulation (ss. 35.6(2)). In appointing a person as a member of the board of directors the LGIC must take into consideration the person’s knowledge and experience in public administration, corporate governance and finance; the person’s knowledge of programs and services provided by authorities; and, such other matters as may be prescribed by regulation (ss. 35.6(3)). 

Term

A member of the board of directors shall be appointed for a term of up to three years and may serve as a member of the board of directors for no more than nine years in total, whether the years are served consecutively or otherwise (ss. 35.6(4) and 35.6(5)).

Remuneration

Board remuneration is in accordance with AAD Schedule A, Level 2. The  rates which are set out in the Order in Council, are as follows: 
a.    $350 per day if the member is the board chair, 
b.    $250 per day if the member is the vice-chair,  
c.    $200 per day in any other case.
