Function

The Home Construction Regulatory Authority (HCRA) is a not-for-profit corporation responsible for administering delegated provisions of the New Home Construction Licensing Act, 2017 and its regulations with the purpose of promoting the protection of the public interest. The HCRA licenses and regulates new home builders and vendors in Ontario. 

Effective February 1, 2021, the Home Construction Regulatory Authority will be designated as the regulatory authority under the New Home Construction Licensing Act, 2017.

Membership

The Home Construction Regulatory Authority is governed by a 9-member Board of Directors. The Minister appoints up to three directors to the board. 

Term

Ministerial appointed Directors are appointed at pleasure. It is within the Minister's discretion to determine the length and number of terms of an appointed Director.

Meetings
The board meets, at a minimum, 4 times per year. Additional meetings of the board may be held at any time provided that forty-eight (48) hours written notice of such meeting is given, other than by posted mail, to each Director.
Remuneration

Appointees are paid by the Board.
