Background

Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Act (MOHLTC Act) s. 8.1(1)2

Function

The broad mandate of the Council is to provide advice to the Minister of Health and Minister of Long-Term Care about health and service delivery issues related to francophone communities (MOHLTC Act, s. 8.1(1)2). Council members represent views of the francophone community. At the request of the Minister, the Council prepares reports, analyzes research/information for the Minister’s consideration in the development and review of strategies, identification and assessment of priorities to improve health outcomes for Francophones and address the health service delivery needs of the French-speaking community.

Membership

The Minister will appoint members including a Chair.

Term

The Minister may appoint members for a period up to three years with further appointments allowable, each not exceeding three years, as per the Agencies and Appointments Directive.

Meetings

The Council is to meet the Minister or their designate at least two times per year.

Remuneration

Council members are not remunerated for serving on the Council.  Members may be reimbursed for eligible travel expenses according to Treasury Board/Management Board of Cabinet’s Travel, Meals and Hospitality Expenses Directive.
