Background
Canadian National Exhibition Association Act, S.O. 1983, as amended (Private Act)
Function

 The association encourages agriculture, horticulture, the arts and manufacturing, and conducts, manages and operates an annual exhibition.

Membership

The association's membership is divided into the following four representative sections: Municipal Section, not to exceed twenty-seven members; Manufacturers and Industry Section, not to exceed forty-four members; Agriculture Section, not to exceed forty-four members; and General and Liberal Arts Section, not to exceed forty-four members. The Agriculture Section includes the Minister and the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs for Ontario as members by virtue of office. The Lieutenant Governor in Council may appoint two Ontario government ministers annually to each of the Manufacturers and Industry and General and Liberal Arts Sections. In those ministers' absence, illness or for specified periods of time in writing, the deputy of each minister shall be a member. 

The association's board, as distinct from its members, is composed of; three CNEA members; the mayor of the City of Toronto; a member of the Board of Directors of Ontario Place; five Municipal Section members appointed by the City of Toronto; five members of each of the Manufacturers and Industry Section, the Agriculture Section and the General and Liberal Arts Section (of the Association) elected by the members of the CNEA; and up to two past presidents of the Association elected annually by the board.

Term

The Minister and Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs serve as members until a successor is appointed. The Lieutenant Governor in Council appointees may be appointed annually. Where a vacancy occurs in the representation of any government, association or society, another representative of the government, association or society may be named and appointed forthwith to act, until a successor is named and appointed, by a notice in writing from the government, association or society to the Association.

Meetings
There is a full association annual general meeting in the fall, and a full association financial meeting in the spring.
Remuneration

Appointees do not receive remuneration.
