Function

Generally, the purpose of the Trust is to manage certain land (including houses, other buildings and structures) on Algonquin Island and Ward's Island in the City of Toronto ("Islands") for the benefit of the residential community on the Islands and the public.

Membership

The Trust is managed by a board of directors consisting of not more than 15 members, appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council. The board appoints a chair, vice-chair, secretary, and treasurer from among its members.

Qualifications

Appointees to the Board of Directors should have the following skills, knowledge and qualifications:

  • Stakeholder engagement and management, leadership, analytical and organizational skills, objectivity, tact, diplomacy and political acuity.
  • A commitment to the protection of the Toronto Islands community and the public interest within the mandate of the agency.
  • Experience serving on a board of directors, in communications, finance, audit, property management, risk management, information technology, strategic planning, human resources, or legal training are considered assets.
  • Reside in the City of Toronto or on Ward’s or Algonquin Islands. City of Toronto residents (including both applicants and their family members) cannot be on the current Purchasers’ List or employed by the Ontario Public Service. Applicants who are residents of Ward’s or Algonquin Island, must be in good standing with respect to their lease agreement.
Term

The Lieutenant Governor in Council determines the term of office of the members of the board.

Meetings
The board meets once per month.
Remuneration

Appointees do not receive remuneration.
