- Function
The Council provides advice to the minister on land use planning matters related to the Greenbelt. This includes providing advice on the implementation of the Greenbelt Plan, performance measures and any proposed amendments to the Greenbelt Plan. The Council also provides advice on implementation, performance measures and public education and outreach for the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe and the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan, to help ensure that environmental protection and growth are effectively managed in the Greater Golden Horseshoe region.
- Membership
The minister may appoint one or more persons to the Council.
- Term
The appointees serve for a term specified by the minister to a maximum three year term, and may be reappointed.
- Meetings
- The Council generally meets ten times a year, or as required.
- Remuneration
The rate of remuneration for Greenbelt Council members is $200 per day when engaged in their duties for more than 3 hours, or $100 per day when engaged for 3 hours or less, up to a maximum of $1,750 per year. The rate of remuneration for Chair of the Greenbelt Council is $350 per day when engaged in their duties for more than 3 hours, or $175 per day when engaged for 3 hours or less, up to a maximum of $6,525 per year.
