Function

The Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario is a classified agency of the Government of Ontario. It assists the Minister in improving all aspects of the post-secondary education sector, including the quality of education provided by colleges and universities, access to post-secondary education and accountability of post-secondary educational institutions. The agency conducts research on post-secondary education to develop the critical evidence base to guide the system towards improved quality, and monitors and reports on performance measures in the post-secondary education system.

Membership

Members of the Board are appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council with no fewer than five and no more than seven members on the Board of Directors at any one time. The Minister designates one member to be the Chair of the Board. At least one member of the Board is an employee of the Ministry of Colleges and Universities, who participates on the Board as a non-voting member.
 

Term

Members of the Board hold office for a term of up to three years and may be reappointed for one further term.

Meetings

The Board normally meets six times a year at the call of the Chair.

Remuneration

Appointees are remunerated according to Schedule A, Level 2 of the Agencies and Appointments Directive.
