Function

The board of trustees is an independent organization, responsible for the ongoing administration of the plan, including investing assets and issuing pension cheques.

Membership

The board of trustees is composed of ten members, five representatives from OPSEU and five representatives from the government. Government appointments are made by Ministerial Appointment letter. A chair and vice-chair are appointed by the trustees, from among the members.

Term

Members will be appointed for a term as determined by their sponsor. The Board selects its own Chair and Vice-Chair, who each serve a two year term. The positions of Chair and Vice-Chair are held by appointees of the different sponsors (i.e. if the Chair is a Government appointee, then the Vice-Chair is an Ontario Public Service Employees Union appointee). After the two year term, the sponsor appointees switch positions (i.e. the Ontario Public Service Employees Union appointee, or his/her successor, would become the Chair and the Government appointee, or his/her successor, would become the Vice-Chair).

Meetings

The board meets about eight times a year. The sub-committee on Investment and Administration meets at least ten times a year, the Audit committee meets four times a year, and the Adjudication committee meets on an as needed basis.

Remuneration

Appointees are remunerated according to Schedule A, Level 2 of the Agencies and Appointments Directive.
