Background

Function

The ONTC is a Crown agency of the Province of Ontario providing passenger rail (Polar Bear Express), rail freight, motor coach (bus), and refurbishment services.

Membership

The Commission shall be composed of not fewer than three persons and not more than nine persons appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council on the recommendation of the Minister. The Lieutenant Governor in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister, shall designate a chair and may designate a vice-chair from among the commissioners pursuant to section 4 of the Act. A majority of the Commissioners forms a quorum. The agency’s chief executive officer (CEO) shall be appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council on the recommendation of the Minister.

Term

There is no limitation in legislation.

Meetings

There are no fixed number of meetings. The board meets as required for the conduct of business.

Remuneration

Appointees are remunerated according to Schedule A, Level 2 of the Agencies and Appointments Directive.
