Function

The corporation and its board advise and make recommendations to the Lieutenant Governor in Council on matters relating to the growth and diversification of the economy of northern Ontario. The corporation was established to promote and stimulate economic initiatives in northern Ontario, to commission studies and enter into contracts to encourage such growth and diversification. The corporation also maintains a fund known as the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund.

Membership

The board is composed of at least twelve directors. The Minister is a director and the chair of the board. Every other director is appointed by order of the Lieutenant Governor in Council.

Term

There is no limitation in legislation.

Meetings

The full board meets approximately 8 times per year with more frequency for special board meetings by teleconference if required. Subcommittees generally meet once monthly.

Remuneration

Appointees to the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation receive $1.00 annually.
