Function

The function of the Committee is to provide advice to the Minister respecting research and management actions towards the elimination of terrestrial rabies from Ontario, rabies surveillance to detect reoccurrence events, proactive strategies to prevent the reoccurrence of rabies in Ontario and such other matters related to the elimination, detection or prevention of rabies in Ontario as may be requested by the Minister.

Membership

The Committee shall be composed of up to eleven members appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council, one of which shall be designated as the Chair.

Term

The members of the Committee, including the Chair, shall serve at the Lieutenant Governor in Council's pleasure for a term not to exceed three years, and may be reappointed for further term or terms of up to three years each.

Meetings

The committee meets two to three times a year, with some occasionally by teleconference. Meetings are usually held in Peterborough or Guelph.

Remuneration

Appointees to the Rabies Advisory Committee are remunerated according to Schedule A, Level 2 of the Agencies and Appointments Directive. Appointees who are members of the Ontario Public Service do not receive remuneration.
