Function

The board administers the tripartite agreement made on March 2, 1983, between Canada, Quebec and Ontario concerning the regulation of water levels at principal reservoirs on the Ottawa River. It formulates and reviews policies on regulation and criteria that will lead to integrated management of these reservoirs in the basin.

Membership

 Seven members and their alternates are appointed. Each member shall be appointed by the Ministry or Agency he or she represents. One member is named by each of the following: Environment Canada, Transport Canada, Public Works (Canada), Environment Quebec, Hydro-Quebec, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Ontario Power Generation Inc. (formerly Ontario Hydro). Only the two provincial government members are eligible to be elected as chair by the members. In practice, the chair is held alternately by Ontario and Quebec. The member and alternate representing the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources is appointed by the Minister or by a ministry delegate.

Term

Members serve at the pleasure of the nominating agency.

Meetings

The board meets four times a year, in February, June, September and November.

Remuneration

Appointees do not receive remuneration.
