Function

COSSARO will maintain criteria for assessing and classifying species, subject to the rules for classification, geographic limitation, and best available scientific information; maintain and prioritize a list of species that should be assessed and classified, including species that should be reviewed and, if appropriate, reclassified; assess, review and classify species in accordance with the list; submit reports to the Minister in accordance with the Act; provide advice to the Minister on any matter submitted to COSSARO by the Minister.

Membership

The committee is composed of up to 12 members, including the Chair, appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council.

Term

Members serve not more than three years and are eligible for reappointment.

Meetings

Meet twice annually.

Remuneration

Appointees to the COSSARO are remunerated on a per diem basis as follows: Chair: $175; Member: $150
