Function

Subject to the Crown Forest Sustainability Act, the Algonquin Forestry Authority is allowed to harvest timber in Algonquin Park and to sort, sell and deliver the logs. It is also empowered to advise on, undertake and carry out forestry, land-management and other programs and projects as the Minister may authorize.

Membership

The Lieutenant Governor in Council appoints not less than five and not more than twelve members and designates one member as chair and one as vice-chair. The General Manager is not a member of the board.

Term

There is no limitation in legislation.

Meetings
The Algonquin Forestry Authority meets six times a year, approximately every two months. Meetings are held in various locations in and around Algonquin Park. Members combine business meetings with visits to mills and logging sites.

Appointees are remunerated according to Schedule A, Level 2 of the Agencies and Appointments Directive
