Function

The committee reviews applications submitted to the Constable Joe MacDonald Public Safety Officers' Survivors Scholarship Fund and makes funding recommendations to the Minister. The scholarship is available to spouses and children of public safety officers who have died in the line of duty. The scholarship pays for the cost of post-secondary education, up to five years, including tuition, books, living and accommodation expenses.

Membership

Members of the committee, including the chair and vice-chair are appointed by the Minister. The committee is comprised of up to eight voting positions.

Qualifications

The Chair and Members of the Committee should have an interest in supporting survivors of public safety officers who have died in the line of duty. Members should generally have a strong commitment and interest in the community, volunteering, working on other public committees and serving the public. Members should be able to review and objectively assess individual applications against the eligibility criteria and develop recommendations for approval by the Solicitor General. 

Term

A term of office is not more than three years and members are eligible for reappointment for successive three year terms.

Meetings
The committee meets at least once annually.
Remuneration

Appointees are eligible to receive expenses.
