- Function
Boards of health are responsible for providing public health programs and services to the area communities in the health unit. The programs include healthy growth and development, healthy lifestyles, communicable disease control and healthy environment programs.
- Membership
The board is composed of between three and thirteen municipal members and one or more members appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council. The number of Lieutenant Governor in Council appointees shall be less than the number of municipal members.
- Term
Members serve for terms of one, two or three years. When a member is unable to complete a term of office, a new member is appointed to serve for the remainder of the unexpired term.
- Meetings
- The health unit is designated as the Municipality of Chatham-Kent. There are ten meetings a year (every month but July and August), held on the third Wednessday of the month at the unit's offices. Some preparation time is required.
- Remuneration
Appointees to the Health Unit Board are paid by the Health Unit.
