The Council advises the Minister on whether unregulated health professions should be regulated, whether regulated health professions should no longer be regulated, amendments to the Act, a health profession act or a regulation under those acts, quality assurance and patient relations programs of Ontario's health regulatory Colleges, and on matters referred to it by the Minister.
The Lieutenant Governor in Council appoints between five and seven members on the Minister's recommendation and designates one of the members as chair and one as vice-chair.
Members are appointed for two year terms and are eligible for reappointment. When a vacancy occurs, a new member is appointed to serve for the remainder of the unexpired term.
- The Council meets monthly for two days.
Appointees to the Health Professions Regulatory Advisory Council are remunerated on a per diem basis as follows: Chair: $600; Vice-Chair: $175; Member: $150.
