Function

The Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council (OMVIC) is a not-for-profit corporation that administers designated provisions of the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act, 2002 and its regulations with the purpose of protecting the public interest and ensuring a fair, safe and informed marketplace. The board of directors supervises the management of the business affairs of OMVIC. The board of directors also appoints individuals to serve on the board of the Motor Vehicle Dealers Compensation Fund. OMVIC regulates motor vehicle dealers and salespersons in the province.

Membership

OMVIC is governed by a board composed of 9 members. The Minister appoints three directors to the board of directors. In addition, the Minister may appoint the Chair of the board from among the directors. OMVIC also has a nine member Compensation Fund Board of Trustees. The minister appoints three members to the Board of Trustees.

Term

Ministerial appointed Directors are appointed at pleasure. It is within the Minister's discretion to determine the length and number of terms of an appointed Director.

Meetings

The board of directors usually meets nine times per year. The board of directors may appoint a day or days in any month or months for regular meetings of the board of directors.

Remuneration

Appointees are paid by the Board.
