The Condominium Authority of Ontario (CAO) is responsible for delegated provisions under the Condominium Act, 1998. CAO provides easy-to-use information to help owners and residents understand their rights and responsibilities, mandatory training for condo directors, resources to help condo owners and residents resolve common issues associated with condo living and provides a public database of key information about every condominium in Ontario. In addition, the CAO operates the Condominium Authority Tribunal, a unique online dispute resolution system to help resolve prescribed disputes under the Condominium Act.
CAO is governed by a 7 member Board of Directors. The Minister appoints three directors to the board. Directors other than those appointed by the Minister are elected by the members of the Board.
Members appointed by the Minister serve for a term of up to 3 years and may be reappointed.
- There are at least four (4) meetings per year of the Board. Additional Meetings of the Board may be held at any time provided that forty-eight (48) hours written notice of such meeting is provided to each Director.
Appointees are paid by the Board.
