Background

Lake Simcoe Protection Act, 2008, S.O. 2008, c. 23, ss. 19(1) (opens a new window)

Function

The Committee will:

1. Provide a forum to co-ordinate implementation of the Lake Simcoe Protection Plan and identify and resolve issues that arise in relation to the implementation of the Lake Simcoe Protection Plan.
2. Provide advice to the Minister on any issues or problems related to the implementation of the Lake Simcoe Protection Plan.
3. With respect to threats to the ecological health of the Lake Simcoe watershed that are identified by the Lake Simcoe Science Committee, provide advice to the Minister on the types of measures that could be taken to deal with the threats, including policies that could be included in the Lake Simcoe Protection Plan, or regulations that could be made under this or any other Act.
4. Assist the Minister and other public bodies to monitor progress on the implementation of the Lake Simcoe Protection Plan.
5. Make recommendations on any proposed amendments to the Lake Simcoe Protection Plan to ensure that the Plan meets its objectives.

Membership

The Lieutenant Governor in Council appoints the members of the Lake Simcoe Coordinating Committee after considering the recommendations of the Minister.

Term

Members serve not more than three years and are eligible for reappointment.

Meetings

Approximately four meetings annually (including one joint meeting with the Lake Simcoe Science Committee).

Remuneration

Appointees are eligible to receive expenses.
