Background

School Boards Collective Bargaining Act, 2014 (opens a new window)

Function

The commission advises the Lieutenant Governor in Council when, in the opinion of the commission, the continuation of a strike or lock-out of school board employees will place in jeopardy the successful completion of courses of study by the affected pupils.

Membership

The Lieutenant Governor in Council appoints five members. One member is appointed as chair.

Term

Limitations on terms of appointments are in accordance with the Agencies & Appointments Directive.

Meetings

Meetings are held as needed. During hearings or a strike, meetings are held more frequently and as required.

Remuneration

Appointees to the Education Relations Commission are remunerated on a per diem basis as follows: Vice-Chair: $470; Member: $380.
