Building Code Short Term Advisory Body

LEO GRELLETTE

Leo Grellette currently serves as Chair of BMEC and as a member of ECRA. He retired from municipal service, having held the position of Director of Building for both the Town of Aurora and the City of Vaughan. Following his retirement from the City of Vaughan, he was approached by the CAO of East Gwillimbury to provide assistance with their building department. During this time, he mentored his successor. Upon completing that work, the CAO of Ramara engaged him to support their building department as well. He later worked on contract with the City of Welland for one year, and subsequently with the Town of Oakville, where he served until completing the role of Manager. In the past, Mr. Grellette served as President of both the Ontario Building Officials Association and the Canadian Fire Safety Association. In addition to his responsibilities as Director of Building in Aurora, he also completed two six-month terms as Acting Director of Engineering. He was a member of the emergency management teams in both Aurora and Vaughan and holds a diploma in Public Administration from the University of Western Ontario.

STEPHEN SHUN MUN WONG

Stephen Wong is formerly a part-time member and Vice-Chair of the Building Code Commission. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Ontario with senior management experience in the municipal government in Ontario Building Code administration and Information Technology management. He retired from public service in 2011. He served as Deputy Building Commissioner in the former City of Etobicoke and Director of Applications and Professional Services in the amalgamated City of Toronto. He was a former member of the Ontario Building Officials Association, Municipal Information Systems Association, American Concrete Institute, and the Canadian Standards Association serving on the Technical Committee on Reinforced Concrete Design. He received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Oregon (USA) and his Master of Science degree in Architectural Engineering from the University of Illinois (USA).

PAUL DE BERARDIS

Paul has a diverse background in civil engineering, with experience in the design, construction and restoration of various building types. As a technically minded thinker, he spearheads innovative construction techniques and building science research to help guide the way homes and condos are built in the GTHA. At RESCON, Paul works closely with members and stakeholders to identify and overcome barriers which affect the residential development and construction industry. He also co-ordinates and chairs the RESCON Technical Council which provides strategic direction and advice to members, government and industry stakeholders on matters relating to technical regulations and construction practices.
