Council of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario

LYDIA MILJAN

is Associate Professor at the University of Windsor. She is a former Assistant Provost at the University of Windsor and a former Director of the Alberta Initiative with the Fraser Institute. Ms. Miljan’s community involvement includes serving as Chair of the Advisory Committee of Kingsville Municipal Heritage. She is a member of the Canadian Political Science Association.

FAIQ BILAL

Mr Faiq Bilal holds a PhD in Microbiology from King’s College, University of London, United Kingdom. He has made significant contributions to the development of science and technology in various countries around the world. After completing his education, Mr. Bilal began his career as a lecturer and later worked on various science advisory positions. In 1998, he joined the international organization ICESCO as Director of Science. He assisted ICESCO member states in formulating national science and technology policies, building capacities in science and technology, and mobilizing scientific research for sustainable development Dr. Bilal's has remained a member of various international committees and boards in science and medical fields. Apart from his professional achievements, Dr. Bilal volunteers his free time for community services and is currently a founding President of a non-for-profit organization that engages and empowers seniors to improve their quality of life.

MARK DE DOMENICO

Mark de Domenico, of Etobicoke, is the Trustee for Ward 2 Etobicoke Centre with the Toronto Catholic District School Board and a self-employed Composer Artist. His community involvement includes serving as a Board member of the Angel Foundation for Learning.

PAUL MALETTE

Joseph Paul Malette was General Counsel and Regional Director for the Tax Law Services Division of the Department of Justice of Canada and the Ontario Regional Office, before retiring in 2017. In these roles, Mr. Malette was involved in mediation and grievance hearings as well as dealing with personnel issues. He is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada. Mr. Malette holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from York University and he attended Osgoode Hall Law School.

LINDA ROBBINS

Linda Robbins is a former account receivable/payable and payrolls for Northwood Development, and a former business analyst/advisor for Bell Canada. Her community involvement includes serving as a coordinator for PROBUS, and a hostess for Canadian Blood Service.

JOSE CORDEIRO

Jose Cordeiro recently retired as a Senior Office for the Portuguese Consulate General in Toronto. As the official representative of the Portuguese government, Mr. Cordeiro served Portuguese citizens living in Ontario and Manitoba. For the past 30 years, Mr. Cordeiro has been actively serving the community. He was a former Director at Macao Club, founder of Amigu di Macau Arts & Culture (ADM) and presently holding the position of President of the same organization. At about 10 years ago, through the success of Mr. Cordeiro, ADM became a member of Alliance of Portuguese Clubs and Associations of Ontario (ACAPO) and, in this organization, he also served 2 terms of office as member of Audit Committee. In addition to speaking English and Portuguese, Mr. Cordeiro speaks Cantonese.

STEPHEN BIRD

Stephen Bird has served as a Board member and member of the Executive Committee of ConnectWell Community Health (formerly Lanark Renfrew Health & Community Services), a community health centre in eastern Ontario. He has also served on the Boards of Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital, The Legal Clinic, Leeds Grenville Lanark District Health Unit, and Lanark CAS/FCS. He has acted as an accreditation reviewer for both the Canadian Centre for Accreditation and Imagine Canada. Mr. Bird is a retired lawyer having practised administrative law for many years with a community legal clinic. In addition to his law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School he has a Master's degree in recreation from the University of Waterloo. He co-authored Recreation and The Law (Carswell), and he is an avid sea kayak paddler and all-season cyclist.

ROB PAYNE

Rob Payne is currently a Financial Advisor at Edward Jones. He is a strategic, active listener with a passion for improving the financial lives of Canadians. He is also a former Municipal Councillor for King Township and active member of the community.

VINCENT GEORGIE

Dr Vincent Georgie is Special Advisor to the President and Vice-Chancellor at the University of Windsor. He is also a tenured Marketing professor. He holds degrees from the University of Toronto, the University of Windsor and HEC Montreal. An authority on the marketing of the film industry, Dr Georgie is the Executive Director and Chief Programmer of the Windsor International Film Festival (WIFF). Celebrating its 20th Anniversary, WIFF screens over 200 feature films, over an 11-day Festival to over 47,000 movie lovers at the Windsor/Detroit border. Georgie holds a PhD in the Marketing of Film. As a recognized community leader and someone who makes things happen, Georgie brings scale, energy and a sense of collaboration to everything he does. Dr Georgie is bilingual, fluent in French and English.

JOAN FISK

Joan Fisk is former Chair of the Waterloo Wellington Local Health Integration Network, where she served from 2011 to 2017. She is additionally the former Director of Gore Mutual Insurance and former Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chamber of Commerce. Her community involvement includes serving as Chair of the Advisory Council for the School of Business and Economics with the University of Guelph. Ms. Fisk holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Guelph.

LUCY BECKER

Lucy Becker is Vice-President of Public Affairs and Policy at the Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority. In addition, she serves as a Public Member on the Governing Council of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and as a Director on the Board of the Bereavement Authority of Ontario. Previously, she was employed as the VP of Public Affairs and Member Education Services for the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) for almost 10 years before retiring in 2022. She has been and continues to be a champion for the protection of consumers – especially seniors – and for equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism. With an extensive regulatory background, Ms. Becker also served as an executive with the Law Society of Upper Canada (now Ontario), was a dedicated Ontario public servant and worked in the investment and brewing sectors. Ms. Becker believes strongly in community and public service and over the years has led various fundraising activities, notably for juvenile diabetes. She is also an elected Volunteer Director with the Don Valley Community Legal Services.

FRED SHERMAN

Fred Sherman is Chief Executive Officer of Hill Solutions Public Affairs which deploys expertise in strategic communications, leadership and management consulting to help organizations and individuals achieve targeted results. He has counseled public and corporate leaders, trained Canadian teachers and military Public Affairs Officers; and collaborated in steering national scale Government of Canada change initiatives at National Defence, Health Canada, the Public Service Commission, Treasury Board, and the Parliament of Canada. His past board service includes the University of Windsor, the United Way, Leadership Ottawa, and the Social Planning Council of Ottawa. Today, he is a director of the College of Physician and Surgeons of Ontario where he also serves on the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports (ICR) Committee; and is a director of the Ottawa Convention Shaw Centre where he also chairs the Finance and Audit Committee. A graduate of the University of Windsor (Political Science/Public Administration), Fred Sherman was also a founding steward of a University of Ottawa Law Faculty Endowment Fund for disadvantaged students.

ANU SRIVASTAVA

Anu Srivastava is the Founder of V Serve Canada, an organization immersed fully in community wellness through arts and culture. Anu has provided exceptional leadership to many not-for-profit organizations and has helped raise $14m for Trillium Health Partners. As a finance professional Anu committed her services to the Municipal Sector for two decades. In overview Anu is an exceptional community leader, a philanthropist, an entrepreneur and professional. She is the recipient of Queen Platinum and Queen Diamond Jubilee Awards; Leading Women Building Communities by Premier of Ontario; Jewels of India: Leading Indo-Canadian Personalities and many Community Leadership awards.

MURTHY GHANDIKOTA

Murthy Ghandikota has served as a Member of Metropolitan Toronto and Toronto public Library Boards. Murthy has experience in the Health Regulatory field in the Province of Ontario including Six years as a public Council Member of the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario and Four Years as a public Council Member of the College of Dental Technologists of Ontario. For over Fifteen years, he served as a Public Member of both Federal and Provincial Administrative Tribunals such as the Assessment Review Board, Board of Inquiry (Ontario Human Rights Commission), Canadian Human Rights Tribunal and the Review Tribunals for the Canada Pension Plan(CPP) and Old Age Security(oAS). Murthy's extensive community service includes working with several diverse and Ethnocultural-Cultural community groups for a period of over Twenty Years as a volunteer. Served as a Citizen Member of the City of North York World City Committee City of North York Recreation Grants Advisory Panel.
