Council Of The College Of Opticians Of Ontario


worked in the public service for 42 years at the federal and municipal government levels. He is a former police officer, prosecutor, Humber College professor, and has worked on senior management teams within the municipal sector. He has extensive experience working with local councils and representing municipalities on various boards. He volunteers with the Youth Criminal Justice Committee of Simcoe Muskoka and sits on the Barrie Business License Appeal Hearing Committee, Property Standards Appeal Committee, the Barrie Council Renumeration Committee, where he held positions of Chair and Vice Chair. He holds the designation of a Certified Municipal manager III, Municipal Law Enforcement Executive and Property Standards Professional. He was appointed as a provincial appointee to the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit Board of Directors.


Henry Wiersema is a Geography Teacher and Vice-Principal for London District Christian High School, and a Principal for Strathroy Community Christian School. His community involvement includes serving as a council member for the Hope Community Christian Reformed Church.


Peggy Judge is a Professional Engineer with experience in the oil and gas, consulting engineering, and insurance industries. Ms. Judge holds a Bachelor of Applied Science from Queen's University, a Master of Engineering Science from The University of Western Ontario, and an MBA from Wilfrid Laurier University. She is currently a Self-Employed Independent Consultant. Ms. Judge previously held the position of Assistant Vice President and Controller at a reinsurance underwriting management firm where she designed, implemented, and oversaw the financial controls for several hundred million dollars of business. She also participated in a major arbitration between the risk bearing Reinsurance Company and a Lloyd's of London Syndicate. Her community involvement includes serving as Operations Director for the major fundraiser for several Scouts Canada Scouting Groups.


Murray Angus is a Finance Director for Children’s Mental Health Services, and a former Finance Manager for Halla Climate Control Canada Inc. Murray’s community involvement includes serving as board member and Treasurer for the Belleville Chamber of Commerce.


Omar Farouk previously served as Chair of the Employment Insurance Board of Referees and as a member of the Council of the College of Nurses of Ontario. In addition to these previous positions, he oversees a food bank that delivers over 200 meals to people in need. He is also a marriage counsellor, a community advisor and holds a certificate from York University in Conflict and Dispute Resolution.


Diana Bristow brings over 35 years of experience in investments and insurance at world-class financial institutions. She began her career as an Investment Advisor at Richardson Securities. Later, Ms. Bristow went on to become a Vice President at BMO Nesbitt Burns. Prior to joining Bellwether Investment Management in 2016, she managed her own agency firm, Bristow Financial Group with Raymond James. Ms. Bristow holds a Management Certificate in Finance from Cornell along with a F.C.S.I designation. She also has her Certified Investment Manager and Certified Financial Planner designations. Her experience ranges from consulting businesses regarding benefit plans (insurance, profit sharing, etc.) to helping individuals, whether they are just starting a family or managing the great wealth they have accumulated. In 2008, Ms. Bristow founded The Bristow Community Foundation in support of her Icelandic heritage and a heritage Pavilion in Gimli, Manitoba. Some of the not for profit organizations she is involved in are the Mississauga Symphony, Junior Achievement, and Women’s Inventor Program. Her passion and greatest motivator, at work and in her personal life, lies with her ability to give back to her community.
