Background
Established under the authority of Section 9 of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Act, R.S.O. 1990, c.M.26
Function

Established in 2021, the Ontario Health Data Council (OHDC) provides advice to the Minister of Health on the strategic management of Ontario’s health data to foster a person-centred learning health system. The OHDC advises on the management of the integration of Ontarians’ health data to generate analytics, insights, and innovations needed by the health care sector and government decision-makers. The OHDC serves in the capacity of the Electronic Health Record Advisory Committee to fulfill the legislative mandate specified in Section 55.11 of the Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004. 

Membership

The Council consists of up to 20 members plus a Chair who are appointed by the Minister. 

Term

Members are appointed for a term of up to two years and may be renewed at the recommendation of the Minister.

Meetings
The Council meets approximately once each month. OHDC may establish working groups to assist in its work.
Remuneration

Appointees are not remunerated.
