Function

The Corporation functions as an innovation program delivery partner. OCI accelerates innovation by supporting collaborative research and development (R&D) between industry and academic institutions, and helping the start-up community to commercialize intellectual property and new technologies to drive economic growth. 

Membership

The members of the Corporation consist of prior acting directors as well as current members of its Board of Directors.  OCI’s Board of Directors shall consist of no more than 13 members.  The Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade may appoint up to 6 directors.

Term

A director appointed by the Minister serves a term not exceeding three years, and may be reappointed for one or more further terms, but each such term will not exceed three years. 

Meetings

The Board of Directors meet quarterly in-person or virtually. The Annual General Meeting occurs in October. Board members are required to sit on at least one committee of the Board. Board and committee meetings are a combination of in-person meetings and teleconference calls.

Remuneration

Appointees do not receive remuneration.
