The university and its board promote the advancement of learning and the dissemination of knowledge and encourage the intellectual, spiritual, moral, social and physical development of its members and students and the betterment of society.
The president of the university is an ex officio member. Six members are appointed by the Board of Governors of Assumption University, two members are appointed by and from the alumni association, four members are appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council, four teaching staff are elected by and from the members of the senate of the university and nine other members are elected by the board, including one elected by each of three affiliated colleges. The presidents of each of three student associations, and three staff also are board members. The board elects a chair and a vice-chair from among the members.
Members serve for a term of three years and are eligible for reappointment. No member shall serve more than three consecutive terms. Members are again eligible for appointment three years after the expiry date of their third consecutive term.
- The board meets on the second Tuesday of each month, except in July and August. Each member is assigned to a committee which requires on average one meeting a month.
Appointees do not receive remuneration.
