Function

Except for matters assigned by the act to the senate, the board oversees the government, conduct, management and control of the university, its property, revenues, business and affairs. The board shall have all powers necessary or convenient to perform its duties and achieve the objects and purposes of the university.
 

Membership

The board currently consists of thirty-seven members including, the President; the Chair of the Board-Senate Committee on Long Range Planning; the Chancellor; three members appointed from the Senate; four elected faculty members; two elected student members; two elected staff members; eleven members elected by the board; one member appointed by the affiliated college (Divinity College); five members appointed by the alumni association; and six members appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council.

Term

Appointees of the Lieutenant Governor in Council hold office for four years for no more than three consecutive terms. However, one year after the expiry date of the third consecutive term, a member is again eligible for appointment. The limit of three consecutive terms does not include service for the balance of an unexpired term.

Meetings
The board usually meets once a month.
Remuneration

Appointees do not receive remuneration.
