Function

The commission maintains, preserves and enhances the beauty and surroundings of the Horseshoe Falls and the Niagara River from Fort Erie to Niagara-on-the-Lake for the enjoyment of current and future visitors while maintaining financial independence.

Membership

The Board is composed of a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 12 members, not more than 8 shall be appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council, for a term of up to three years. Four municipal members are appointed by a resolution of the following municipal councils: Regional Municipality of Niagara, Town of Fort Erie, City of Niagara Falls, Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake. The Lieutenant Governor in Council may designate a member as chair and a member as vice-chair.

Term

A vacancy may be filled for the remainder of the unexpired term.

Meetings

The commission is scheduled to meet every other month.

Remuneration

Appointees are remunerated according to Schedule A, Level 2 of the Agencies and Appointments Directive.
