Background

Function

The function of the Board is to provide advice to the Minister about planning, managing, and developing provincial parks and conservation reserves in Ontario. Areas that the Board may be asked to provide advice about include, but are not limited to:

• Provision of sustainable recreation opportunities balanced with maintenance of ecological integrity in provincial parks and conservation reserves.
• Increased recreational opportunities to promote provincial parks and increased visitation.
• Opportunities to expand access to provincial parks throughout the province.
• Engagement and increased public awareness of the Ontario Parks system.
• Engagement with public, partners and interest groups for growing, planning and developing provincial parks and conservation reserves.
• Proposed policy direction and overall strategy for Ontario Parks.

Membership

The Board shall be composed of up to fifteen (15) members appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council, one of which shall be designated as the Chair and one of which may be designated as Vice-chair.

Term

The members of the Board, including the Chair, shall serve at the Lieutenant Governor in Council’s pleasure for a term not exceeding three years, and may be reappointed for further term or terms of up to three years each.

Meetings

The Board will meet a minimum of four times a calendar year and shall hold additional meetings as required.

Remuneration

Appointees are eligible to be reimbursed for expenses.
