Function

Established in 1991, OACHA is an advisory agency of the provincial government. The mandate is to provide strategic advice to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care ('the Minister') on all aspects of HIV-related education, prevention, treatment, care and support in Ontario. OACHA will support and promote informed decision-making. In this capacity, OACHA will provide advice on strategic directions for policy and service delivery, to stimulate thought and influence action, through the Minister, across the government.

Membership

OACHA will be comprised of up to 21 individuals, unless the Minister or the ministry determines that additional members are needed to ensure that the committee reflects the principles of membership outlined in its terms of reference. Term

The Minister will appoint members for such period as the Minister may determine, usually for terms of one to three years. Members cannot serve longer than 10 years in a continuous fashion.

Meetings
The committee meets approximately four times a year. OACHA may establish working groups to assist in its work. Working groups must include at least one member of OACHA. Experts external to OACHA can be invited to participate on working groups, as needed.
Remuneration

Appointees are eligible to receive expenses.
