Background

Liquor Control Board of Ontario Act, 2019 (opens a new window)

Function

The Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) controls and advances the socially responsible sale and distribution of alcohol in Ontario, and transfers profits to the province to support priority programs for the people of Ontario. LCBO operates over 660 stores across Ontario and also serves consumers online through the LCBO e-commerce website, catalogue and special order sales. LCBO authorizes agency stores in smaller communities to sell to the public. The agency also serves wholesale customers: grocery stores, licensees (licensed bars and restaurants), the Beer Store and duty free stores.  

Membership

The Lieutenant Governor in Council appoints not more than eleven members and designates one member as chair and may designate one member as vice-chair.

Term

The members of the board shall be appointed to hold office for a term not exceeding five years and may be reappointed for further succeeding terms not exceeding five years each.

Meetings

The board meets seven times per year with additional meetings as needed. Meetings are held at 55 Lake Shore Boulevard East in Toronto.
