Function

The Commission administers the Farm Products Marketing Act and the Milk Act, supervises Ontario's twenty-five marketing boards and designated associations, develops and implements regulated marketing policy, provides leadership in the form of advice, facilitation, and direction to Ontario's marketing boards and designated associations, provides educational programs to boards, designated associations and industry stakeholders in order to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the regulated marketing system.

Membership

The Lieutenant Governor in Council appoints not fewer than three people and appoints one member as chair and one or more as vice-chair(s).

Qualifications

Candidates must have a basic understanding of Ontario’s regulated marketing system.  Expertise in supply management, regulated marketing and/or food processing is needed.   Strategic thinking and decision-making skills are assets.

Term

Members are appointed for an initial term of two years and are eligible for reappointment. The term of appointment is a maximum of 10 years in total.

Meetings

The commission meets monthly for two days. Meetings are usually held on the second Wednesday and Thursday of each month at 1 Stone Road West, Guelph. Occasional travel is required for planning sessions and information sessions with marketing boards.

Appointees are remunerated according to Schedule B of the Agencies and Appointments Directive
