The Lake Simcoe Science Committee (LSSC) is an Advisory Agency established under the Lake Simcoe Protection Act (LSPA) to provide independent, science-based advice to the Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks on watershed conditions, emerging threats, and the research and monitoring needed to support the Lake Simcoe Protection Plan.

As Chair you will:
- Lead the committee and guide discussions to support high-quality, science-based advice to the Minister.
- Set meeting agendas with ministry support and oversee effective, consensus-based decision making.
- Ensure the Committee provides its annual (and any requested) advice to the Minister in a timely manner.
- Meet with the Minister annually to discuss progress, risks, and emerging issues.
- Ensure the Committee complies with provincial directives, including conflict of interest, confidentiality, FOI/privacy, and ethics requirements.
- Qualifications
A successful candidate will bring strong leadership experience and expertise in one of more of the following areas:
- watershed management,
- Traditional Ecological Knowledge,
- conservation or fisheries biology,
- hydrology, limnology, hydrogeology, climate change, or
- related disciplines.
Assets including knowledge of watershed restoration, climate impacts, phosphorus chemistry, non-point source pollution, and multi-stressor effects.

Committee members are appointed by an Order-In-Council for a term of up to three (3) years and are eligible for reappointment. - Time Commitment

Quarterly meeting
LSSC members are appointed on a part-time basis. Meetings are held quarterly, or as decided by the Committee. Appointees participate in meetings and/or teleconferences primarily during normal business hours. Quarterly meetings are typically held in the Lake Simcoe watershed area with virtual participation available. At least one meeting per year must be held in person with all other meetings either in person or by web-enabled technology. - Expenses

The Committee Chair receives $350.00 per diem. The appointee shall be reimbursed for reasonable work-related expenses while engaged in the business of the LSCC in accordance with the Travel, Meal and Hospitality Expenses Directive and any other Treasury Board and Management Board of Cabinet directives.
