- Roles and Responsibilities
Established under the authority of the Heritage Hunting and Fishing Act, 2002, the Commission is an advisory agency whose functions include considering and making recommendations to the Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry on the following matters:
- the promotion of practices that will contribute to recreational hunting and fishing being valued by future generations;
- the promotion of public participation in fish and wildlife conservation programs;
- the promotion of youth participation in hunting, fishing and other fish and wildlife activities;
- the promotion of tourism and new opportunities related to hunting, fishing and other fish and wildlife activities;
- any other matter referred to the Commission by the Minister; and
- the operation of the separate account referred to in section 85 of the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, 1997 (The Fish and Wildlife Special Purpose Account).
Members are accountable to the Chair and are responsible for setting long-term goals and strategic direction for the Commission consistent with its statutory mandate.
Appointees will be required to follow the provincial ethical framework set out for government public appointees in the Management Board of Cabinet’s Agencies and Appointments Directive (AAD) https://www.ontario.ca/page/agencies-and-appointments-directive and undertake any required training as directed by the Public Appointment Secretariat.
- Qualifications
The successful candidate must:
- be knowledgeable about hunting, fishing, trapping and other fish and wildlife and natural resource management activities and programs;
- demonstrate problem solving and decision-making skills to be able to make objective and impartial recommendations;
- Interest in and active promotion of hunting, fishing, trapping and other fish and wildlife conservation programs;
- have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and experience participating in meetings; and
- have experience in negotiation, facilitation and conflict resolution and/or financial, business or marketing skills

Members are appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council for a term of not more than 3 years and are eligible for reappointment. - Time Commitment

Quarterly meeting
The Commission meets quarterly and may hold additional meetings upon request of the Minister. Meetings are typically 1-2 full days. - Expenses

Expenses incurred by members will be reimbursed as per Ontario’s Travel, Meal and Hospitality Expenses Directive.
