Function:  The committee reviews applications submitted to the Constable Joe MacDonald Public Safety Officers' Survivors Scholarship Fund and makes funding recommendations to the Minister. The scholarship is available to spouses and children of public safety officers who have died in the line of duty. It pays for the cost of post-secondary education, up to five years, including tuition, books, living and accommodation expenses.

Membership:  Members of the committee, including the chair and vice-chair are appointed by the Minister. The committee is comprised of up to eight voting positions.

Term:  A term of office is not more than three years and members are eligible for reappointment for successive three year terms.

Meetings:  The committee meets at least twice annually.

Requirements:  Ministerial discretion. Candidates being considered for appointment must consent to undergo a security check.
