Council of the Ontario College of Teachers

JONATHAN ROSE

Jonathan Rose is Professor and Head of the Department of Political Studies at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. He teaches and researches in the areas of Canadian politics, political communication, and citizen engagement. A committed teacher, Jonathan has won several teaching awards at Queen's and has taught at universities in Japan, UK, the Czech Republic, and New Zealand. He has written, co-written and edited five books and several articles in both the scholarly and popular press. Jonathan has worked with governments at all levels on citizen engagement exercises. In 2016 he was an expert panelist for the Bank of Canada's advisory panel that nominated Viola Desmond for the new $10 banknote.

DIANA MILES

Diana Miles is the Chief Executive Officer of the Law Society of Ontario. During her time with the organization, she has provided proactive and effective policy-oriented leadership to the Board while overseeing significant operational portfolios. This has included responsibility for strategic and operational planning, financial management, governance assessment, board education, creation of defensible and valid licensure systems, provision of resources and supports for licensees, and the development of progressive regulation, risk management and quality assurance for licensees. Diana was called to the bar in Ontario in 1990 and has been a business executive for 25 years. She has extensive governance and board experience, is a Chartered Director (CDir), and has worked with private and not-for-profit boards as a board member and governance facilitator in the energy, health care, insurance and professional services sectors.

ELAINE LAJEUNESSE

Elaine Lajeunesse is known for her no-nonsense attitude and ability to optimize engagement to create a culture of commitment and high performance. Having worked in multiple large, complex industries across jurisdictions, through times of significant change and transition, Elaine has a depth of learning from her diverse background as a C-Suite executive and Director. Her leading area of expertise is risk management and the integration of risk into strategic and business decisions. Her ability to combine analytic process, common sense and strategic thinking allowed her to deliver practical solutions to complex issues. Her strong leadership skills and passion for people development have consistently led to reduced team turnover, increased productivity, retention, engagement, and morale – all critical in today’s work environment. Elaine is bilingual and is a FCIA, FCAS, CFA charterholder and ICD.D holder. In 2021, she was named as a Leader of Change by the Insurance Business of Canada.

JONATHAN DAVEY

Jonathan Davey is the Vice President of Indigenous Financial Services at Scotiabank. Before joining Scotiabank he was Crown Counsel and a Special Advisor with the Department of Justice Canada. Jonathan is also a Captain with The Queen’s York Rangers (1st American Regiment) of the Canadian Armed Forces Primary Reserve and an Aide de Camp to the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario. He holds a master’s degree in Public Administration from Cornell University, a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School and a First Class Honours degree in Business Communications from Brock University. Jonathan is of Haudenosaunee and non-Indigenous descent. He shares his Lower Cayuga heritage, Six Nations of the Grand River Territory, with his father.

ABENA BUAHENE

Abena Buahene is a Special Projects Advisor/Consultant for Condominium Authority of Ontario. Abena is a former Deputy Registrar for Condominium Authority of Ontario, and a former Executive Director and Registrar for Ontario Film Authority. Abena’s community involvement includes formerly serving as a Director for Board of Heritage Toronto.
