Function:  All municipalities are required by the Homes for the Aged and Rest Homes Act to establish and maintain a home for the aged or participate with other municipalities in the operation of a joint home. The Act also requires municipalities to establish committees of management and bands or territorial districts to establish boards of management to govern and oversee the operation of the home or joint home. The boards act as management committees for homes for the aged and rest homes. They operate only in districts in Northern Ontario.

Membership:  The board of management for the District of Thunder Bay consists of seven members. The Lieutenant Governor in Council appoints two members at large. The board appoints one of the members as Chair. APPOINTMENTS ARE NOT BEING FILLED DUE TO OPERATIONAL CHANGES TO THE BOARD.
